in the morning peak commuter period and five trains eastbound from Vancouver
to Mission in the afternoon.
There are two weekday morning TrainBuses from Mission to
Vancouver and two afternoon and three evening buses weekdays from Vancouver to Mission.
The West Coast Express train service does not run on weekends or statutory
holidays. We do operate TrainBus on Saturday and Sunday, except for Statutory holidays.
Our History
The idea for a commuter
train service simmered a long time before
becoming a reality in Greater Vancouver.
As early as 1972, planners
were considering using existing rail
corridors to carry commuter trains. However,
it was not until 1992, when a 14-member
Citizens Advisory committee began reviewing
transportation improvements for the
northeast sector of Greater Vancouver.
Construction on the commuter service began
in 1994.
Eighteen months later, on
November 1, 1995, West Coast Express was
launched. It has gone on to become a vital
and popular part of the northeast sector's
transportation network.
Our Mission
Our goal, quite simply,
is to make you love riding our service. We
begin with the basics of safety, reliability
and punctuality. We strive to get you to
your destination relaxed and ready to start
(or end) your day. That means caring for
your comfort, treating you with respect,
listening to your concerns, and providing
services that meet the needs of our
ridership.
West Coast Express is a team of dedicated
people, made up of staff and contracted
employees. We share a common goal and we
have a set of core values that communicate
the way we work and play at WCE.
Interesting Facts
As of 2009, over 28 million riders will have used West Coast Express since its opening on November 1, 1995.
Since opening, ridership has increased
from about 5,000 riders a day to over 10,500.
We welcomed over 2.62 million passengers in 2009.
Thanks to our customers choosing West Coast Express over their cars for the commute, there are approx. 3,500 fewer cars on the road during weekday peak periods.
Fewer cars on the road mean less air
pollution.
